The one consistent thing about social media and online presence is that it’s never consistent. But something that IS consistent is that I love starting off a new working year with Social Media Summer School, and in 2022 I’m running it again – will you join me?
I’ve been running my social media consultancy for eleven years now and the trends of social media have continued to both thrill and bamboozle me. What I want to do for you is to help you know what you need to pay attention to during 2022, how you can use social media in a way that isn’t a huge time suck and doesn’t feel icky, and how to make it work for you most effectively.
In November every year now, previous participants start asking me if I’m going to run Social Media Summer School again. And I am – because it’s a great way to start the year both for me and for you. This year I want to help you think even more about how much time you want to spend on social media, which platforms work for you, and what other ways you can promote yourself or your work without being tied to social media more than you want to be.
Since many of us have less work on during January, it’s the perfect time to sit down and figure out the best approach to the year so that you can promote your work brilliantly and (nearly) effortlessly!
What will Social Media Summer School involve?
When you sign up to Social Media Summer School you’ll be added to a private Facebook group where you’ll get short training content from me each day, the chance to chat with your fellow students, and three Zoom calls with the group which will including additional training, some networking and the chance to have all your questions answered! (Unless your questions are things like how to make an 11-year-old tidy his bedroom, because on that I’m clueless.)
Social Media Summer School runs for ten days from 16 January to 25 January and each day has its own special objective:
- Kick-off meeting and the social media big picture in 2022
- Your why and your social platforms of choice
- Getting people to engage with your posts, and making your posts accessible
- Facebook business pages and Instagram profiles

So to summarise, what you will get is:

FAQ for Social Media Summer School
Do I need existing social media platforms?
Probably, yes. The Summer School won’t cover setting up any social media platforms so you’ll get the most out of it if you’ve already got, say a Facebook page and an Instagram account or LinkedIn profile set up, and know the basics of how to use them. If you haven’t posted on them much, that’s OK – we’ll get that sorted!
How much time will it take?
Each weekday I’ll add a small task in the Facebook group that you can do to help you make progress – sometimes it’ll be a ten-minute task, sometimes half an hour. There will also be three live Zoom calls (you can choose how much you want to be involved!) – one at the start (Sunday 16th January, 4pm Perth time), one in the middle (Friday 21st January, 4pm Perth time) and one on the last day (Tuesday 25th January, 4pm Perth time) which will last 30 to 45 minutes – if you can’t make those times you can watch the replay afterwards, but if you’re there live you can ask extra questions.
Remember, social media success is the sum of many small actions. Even if you don’t have time to do everything in the Social Media Summer School, you’re bound to take enough small actions that your 2022 works out way better!
Do I have to live in Western Australia to take part?
You do not! Thanks to Covid, everyone loves Zoom now (okay “loves” might be an exaggeration but everyone knows how to use it, at least) and in previous years we’ve had participants from around Australia and even around the world. Note that pricing is in Australian dollars, though. You can check the time conversion here if you need. Of course, the live sessions will be recorded and shared in the private Facebook group, so it’s definitely not the end of the world if you miss the live sessions, and you’ll have the chance to submit questions ahead of time.
Will the content be the same as the previous Summer Media Social School?
Nope! Every year is different and this year will be more different than ever. Of course some of the key concepts will be similar but the content is all fresh, the exercises will be different and of course, since the world of social media changes daily, the specifics will be up-to-date and relevant to 2022. In past Summer Schools I’ve had many “repeat” participants and they’ve always got a lot out of it.
Why so reasonably priced?
I actually love running Summer School and I get a lot out of it – it’s the kick up the bottom I need to get MY year going, too! I want the price to be a no-brainer so that you’ll sign up and join me, quick-smart.
